FlatSat simulator for qualifying avionics & software for flight

Overview

The Permanent Engineering Test Environment (PETE) is designed for integration testing and final verification of software images before transmission to the satellite. Its primary goal is to catch electrical and software faults before the final satellite is delivered, and to prevent bugs resulting from software updates. It is named in honor of our advisor Pete Mahowald.

Requirements

• Simulate input power of solar panels for complete orbit under:
  • Full control
  • Tumbling
• Simulate battery board during:
  • Charging state
  • Discharging state
• Simulate ground station link over:
  • UHF
  • S-band
• Testing requirements:
  • Simulate full two days of orbit
  • Log power draw and telemetry from PETE
  • Automatically upload flight code from GitHub and initiate test
  • Network-accessible Grafana dashboard for test run analysis
